Jul. 8th, 2007 05:58 pmSitting in express train St.Petersburg-Helsinki "Sibelius" I saw boys on their bicycles watching passing by red-white train to Finland.
When I was a kid we used to spend summers not far from Vyborg. Train to Helsinki was a daily attraction. Gray-blue at that time and faster than any other train (the whole railroad traffic from Leningrad to Vyborg was stopped to ensure fast and smooth run of "Sibelius"), it was an icon for foreign life. Many kids and some adults, too, liked to see the train running through the village. I preferred to watch it in evenings, the train was a good end for a busy kid's day. I liked to imagine people in the train, country they were going to, another life I knew about from books. The train was different and supported my imagination well.
Back in time could I ever guess I will be sitting in this train to wonderland myself? No, never...
Indeed, great changes happened in USSR and Russia during last 20 years. Not that I like all of them, but anyways thanks to all, who really made it possible.
