If there is such a thing like "DYI* projects" why can't there be "GFY** projects"?.. Or am I just outdated on the topic?..

* That is Do It Yourself.
** That would be Go F*ck Yourself.

Aren't they all? At least it feels like the GFY projects are the default, that's why it doesn't have to be stated explicitly.

Perhaps yes. It is crucial to be on the right side of a GFY project then. Which is a generic problem anyways...
